Navigating Social Media Overwhelm

Social media overwhelm is a real thing and a lot of people have been feeling it! Maybe you've been playing the social media game for years or maybe you are just getting started, but wherever you find yourself in the Interest Level of your marketing funnel, if you’re feeling overwhelmed, know that you are not alone.

The good news is I have some amazing tip for you to help navigate your way through your social media overwhelm!

1. Identify the task you like the least and do it first
Have you had every intention of getting something done and you know you need to do it, but you procrastinate and put it off, and by the end of the day you have no desire to actually do it?

(If you’ve ever been on a diet and you’re doing so great all day long and then at night, you cave and eat a whole pint of Ben & Jerry’s Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough ice cream, then you know know what I am talking about!)

There’s a reason! Studies have shown that we have a finite amount of willpower and drive throughout the day. We have the most drive in the morning, and it slowly decreases throughout our day.

When it comes to social media, what are the tasks that you find yourself procrastinating on? For you, it may be caption writing, maybe it's scheduling your posts. Whatever it is, I want you to identify that task (or tasks) that you don’t like as much and get it out of the way, then treat yourself to the tasks that you like doing and bring you joy later.

2. Choose one social media platform to start nurturing
If you are just starting to invest time into the Interest Level of your marketing funnel and you’re feeling overwhelmed with creating content, writing captions, or any of the elements of social media, do this:

Choose one platform (maybe two if you’re feeling bold) and start nurturing it.

Google and Yelp are a great place to start! There are no captions required and it can take you as little as 10-15 minutes a week to nurture those platforms. (Score!)

If you choose a review platform to nurture, you will also want to be sure to ask clients for reviews when they are in your chair.

After asking your client for their beverage or snack selection, you can say something like, “While I'm grabbing that, could you do a favor for me and leave me a Google review? I'd love to gift you $__ off your service today as a thank you! I’ve always enjoyed having you in my chair and would love to see more amazing guests like you. Leaving a review is one of the best ways for me to grow my business with more perfect clients like yourself.”

3. Reframe how you think about tackling social media
If you have all of your Core 4 social media platforms set up, and you’re feeling overwhelmed by having to nurture those platforms all the time, try reframing how you think about tackling social media.

I think about it like this:

Instagram is the platform that you are typically creating fresh content on and will need the most time and attention because it's by far the most time consuming platform. You'll select the image you want to share, pair it with a caption you've framed using your Thrivers or Wealthiest Year Yet tools and then that Instagram content ultimately is what gets repurposed to any other channels.

Facebook is where you should take the content that you spent all that time planning and creating on Instagram and repurpose it. You can use the same captions and images without any major changes.

I would recommend switching up the order in which you post them just to keep the feed fresh.

Yelp and Google are probably the easiest since you don’t need any captions and you are just posting your images to them and responding to the new reviews you’ve received each week.

We suggest uploading at least 10 images to Yelp and Google weekly and don't be afraid to use some of your older photos living on your Instagram grid or in your phone. Volume counts on the review platforms and there is nothing wrong with repurposing even older content so long as it's still branded and speaks to your target market clients.

Let’s continue building the social proof that you are amazing!

"As I was preparing for a big move cross country, Thrivers helped me create a clear path for my future which included success! It was scary starting over after having a 25 year clientele, but after implementing everything I was taught, I was booked my first day, a finalist for best salon my first year, and voted best hairstylist year 3 + 4.
